Call centres are one of the few industries in South Africa that hire large numbers of young people without work experience. This guide shows where the jobs are, which employers to apply to in Cape Town, Durban, Johannesburg, Pretoria and the Eastern Cape, the free programmes that help you get hired, and how to avoid fake job adverts.

1Where the call centre jobs are
International companies run customer service from South Africa because of our English skills, time zone and costs. In 2025 the sector created 26,346 new jobs serving international clients, its highest yearly total since 2018 (BPESA, July 2026):
| Province | New jobs in 2025 | New jobs in 2024 |
|---|---|---|
| Western Cape | 13,056 | 9,549 |
| KwaZulu-Natal | 7,709 | 6,908 |
| Gauteng | 3,969 | 3,810 |
| Eastern Cape | 1,612 | 251 |
These figures count jobs serving overseas customers. Local call centres for South African banks, insurers, retailers and cellphone networks hire many more people on top of these.
2Call centre jobs in Cape Town (no experience)
Cape Town is South Africa’s biggest call centre hub, and the Western Cape created more new international-facing jobs in 2025 than any other province. Employers with official careers pages that hire in Cape Town include:
- WNS: sites in Century City, Bellville and Claremont. WNS South Africa careers
- Foundever: V&A Waterfront. Its South Africa jobs page invites applicants “even with no experience”. Foundever South Africa jobs
- TP (Teleperformance): TP careers (filter by South Africa)
- TTEC: TTEC jobs
- CapeBPO: the Western Cape’s industry body (not an employer) collects CVs for contact centre jobs and training. CapeBPO careers
Search tip: look for “customer service advisor”, “contact centre agent” and “customer experience associate” as well as “call centre agent”. Many international campaigns use these titles.
3Call centre jobs in Durban and Umhlanga
Durban is the country’s second-largest hub: BPESA says about 25% to 30% of South Africa’s global services workforce is based there (BPESA, October 2025). Employers with official careers pages that hire in Durban include:
- WNS: Riverhorse Valley. WNS South Africa careers
- Concentrix: Concentrix jobs (search “Durban”)
- Outworx: says it is constantly hiring customer service and sales agents. Outworx careers
Search tip: many Durban call centres are in Umhlanga and La Lucia Ridge, so include those areas in your job searches.
4Call centre jobs in Johannesburg, Sandton and Pretoria
Gauteng created 3,969 new international-facing jobs in 2025, and it is also home to many local call centres for banks, insurers, medical aids and cellphone networks. WNS has a site in Centurion (WNS South Africa careers).
Search tip: big banks, insurers and telecoms companies hire contact centre agents directly, so check the careers pages of the companies whose services you already use, and search “contact centre agent” with Johannesburg, Sandton, Randburg, Midrand or Pretoria.
5Call centre jobs in Gqeberha (Port Elizabeth) and East London
The Eastern Cape is growing fast: new international-facing jobs jumped from 251 in 2024 to 1,612 in 2025 (BPESA). In May 2026, the East London Industrial Development Zone turned the first sod on an 800-seat BPO park (BPESA, May 2026).
- WNS: Coega, near Gqeberha. WNS South Africa careers
- TP (Teleperformance): opened a Gqeberha centre in 2024. TP careers
6Other cities and “near me” searches
If you live in Bloemfontein, Polokwane, Pietermaritzburg or a smaller town, there are fewer call centres nearby. Your best options are:
- Register on SAYouth (sayouth.mobi) and set your location, so you see opportunities near you.
- Search job boards for “call centre”, “contact centre” and “customer service” with your town name.
- Set free job alerts on JobAlertsZA so new adverts come to you.
- Consider moving to a hub city only once you have a confirmed offer in writing.

7Free programmes that help you get hired
- SAYouth (sayouth.mobi): run by Harambee. Free for people aged 18 to 34, zero-rated on the main networks so it does not use your data, and it lists jobs, learnerships and work experience. Toll-free helpline: 0800 72 72 72 (Harambee).
- YES (Youth Employment Service): 12-month work experience placements with businesses. You register through SAYouth (YES).
- Learnerships: some contact centres run learnerships that pay a monthly stipend while you train. A learnership is not a permanent job, but it gives you experience and a qualification. Apply only through official company websites or SAYouth.
8How to spot a fake call centre job
The Department of Employment and Labour warns that it is illegal in South Africa to be asked to pay for a job (SAnews).
Real call centres test you (typing, English and a role-play call), interview you, and pay for your training. Before you apply, use our guide to writing a CV with no experience to get your CV ready.
?Frequently asked questions
Which city has the most call centre jobs in South Africa?
Cape Town. The Western Cape created 13,056 new international-facing jobs in 2025, more than any other province, followed by KwaZulu-Natal (mainly Durban) with 7,709.
Can I get a call centre job with no experience?
Yes. Many call centres hire beginners and train them. Some adverts do ask for around six months of customer-facing experience, so apply to several employers and look for adverts that say no experience is needed.
Do I need matric for a call centre job?
Most employers ask for matric, good spoken English and basic computer skills. Some smaller employers advertise without matric, so read each advert.
Do call centres pay for training?
Real employers pay for your training on their products and systems. If anyone asks you to pay for training before you are hired, treat it as a scam.
Is it legal to charge me for a job?
No. The Department of Employment and Labour says it is illegal to ask a job seeker to pay for a job. Do not pay any job offer fee.
Are there work-from-home call centre jobs for beginners?
They are rare. Most remote roles go to experienced agents with reliable internet and electricity at home. Be extra careful with work-from-home adverts, because many are scams.
What is the difference between a learnership and a job?
A learnership is a structured training programme, usually about 12 months, that pays a stipend while you learn and work. A job is ongoing employment with a salary. Both give you valuable experience.
How much do entry-level call centre agents earn?
It depends on the employer and campaign. PayScale puts the average for all call centre agents at about R95,000 a year, roughly R7,900 a month. See our call centre agent guide for more on pay.
